Short answer
The material decides: laser engraving on metal, glass, wood, and bamboo; UV printing on plastic, acrylic, and painted steel; sublimation on white ceramic and aluminum. At Lemon Creativo in Santo Domingo, every product page lists its method, and most take 2 to 4 days from artwork approval.

Request quoteWhich method fits which material?
The material decides first; the logo and how the item is used come next. If a material does not accept a method, it will not look right no matter what. Here we cover hard goods: metal, glass, ceramic, plastic, wood, and bamboo. For caps, polo shirts, and fabric bags, see embroidery, DTF, screen printing, or sublimation: how to choose.
| Material | Method on our product pages | What it looks like | Real catalog example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stainless steel | Laser engraving or UV printing | Laser: the logo is marked into the metal in a single tone; on a painted tumbler it removes the color layer and reveals the steel. UV: full color over the paint | Owala-style 24 oz tumbler, with UV or laser; 30 ml steel flask, laser engraved |
| Aluminum and coated metal | Sublimation | Full color, fused into the surface | 750 ml aluminum bottle; metal bottle-opener keychain |
| Glass and crystal | Laser engraving | Frosted white mark, no ink | Crystal wine glass; round crystal plaque |
| White ceramic | Sublimation | Full color with no texture; handles photos and gradients | 11 oz white mug; mugs with cork base and lid |
| Colored ceramic | UV printing | The logo is printed over the colored glaze | Glossy colored ceramic mugs |
| Plastic and acrylic | UV printing | Full color; the ink cures instantly under ultraviolet light | Covert pen; Skinny acrylic bottle |
| Wood and bamboo | Laser engraving | A dark, burned-in tone on the grain | Oval wooden keychain; 380 ml bamboo tumbler |
| Faux leather (PU) | UV printing or sublimation | Full color on the cover or item | A5 PU notebook, UV printed; PU faux-leather keychain, sublimated |
| Small or curved plastic, high volume | Pad printing | One or a few colors, sharp on uneven surfaces | Lemon does not offer it: pens and plastic items are UV-printed |

When does laser engraving make sense?
When you want an understated, permanent finish. A laser marks the material itself, so there is no ink to rub or wash off. That is why it is the method for crystal plaques, executive metal pens, and anything made of wood or bamboo.
- Executive gifts and recognition: a small logo engraved in steel or crystal says more than a large full-color one. If you are preparing an award, our guide to recognition plaques in Santo Domingo explains what details to send.
- Bamboo and wood items: the engraving looks clean on the grain and supports a sustainability message without spelling it out.
- A name on every piece: each unit is engraved on its own, like the bamboo pen in the photo.
Its limit is color: a laser cannot reproduce your brand colors. A logo with gradients or shadows gets simplified to a single tone.
What is UV printing, and which products suit it?
It is digital printing directly on the item, with ink that cures instantly under ultraviolet light. It reproduces the logo in full color, gradients included, on plastic, acrylic, painted steel, faux leather, and colored ceramic. It is the method that appears most often on our product pages.
It makes sense when exact brand color matters, when the logo has many tones, or when each piece carries a different name. Our plastic pens, chargers, power banks, and most notebooks are printed this way. To keep it looking good on tumblers and cups, wash them by hand without abrasive sponges.
When is sublimation used on hard goods?
When the item is coated for sublimation and light-colored: white ceramic, aluminum, the metal on some keychains, and pins. The ink becomes part of the surface, so you cannot feel the design and it holds up to daily use.
It is the method behind several of our clients' most-ordered items since 2025: 11 oz ceramic mugs, mugs with a cork base and lid, and metal pins, with 1,235 units shipped at about 50 per order. It does not work on bamboo, uncoated glass, or regular plastic; those take laser or UV.
What about pad printing?
Pad printing transfers ink with a silicone pad from an etched plate, which lets it reach small, curved surfaces such as a pen clip. It prints one or a few colors, and each color needs its own setup, so it pays off on large runs of the same design.
Lemon does not do pad printing: the pens and plastic items in our catalog are UV-printed, which gives full color with no per-color setup.
What if an item accepts two methods?
Choose by how you want the logo to look, knowing they do not cost the same: on individual items that offer a choice, laser engraving usually costs somewhat more per unit than UV printing or sublimation. The exact difference goes in the quote, within 24 to 48 hours, with both options in the mockup.
| Item | With UV or sublimation | Laser engraved |
|---|---|---|
| Eclipse metal pen | Full-color logo (UV) | Logo marked into the metal, in one tone |
| 17 oz single-color steel bottle | Brand colors (UV or sublimation) | Understated finish that does not wear |
| 20 oz curved insulated cup | Full-color logo (UV) | Logo marked into the steel, in one tone |
| 24 oz Owala-style tumbler | Full-color logo (UV) | Removes the paint and reveals the steel |
With that in mind:
- Laser if the logo works in one tone and you want an understated finish that does not wear.
- UV if you need exact brand colors or a design with gradients.
A kit with several items can mix methods, one per material. What stays the same is the logo: the same file, with size and position planned for each item. If you are unsure, we show you both options in the mockup.
How we tell you which method each item takes
Every product page in our catalog states which method the item accepts. You do not have to guess: pick the product, and the method is already set or narrowed to two options.
- Send us your logo as a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG, or editable PDF). If you only have an image, we check it and tell you whether it will work.
- Within 24 to 48 hours you get a mockup with the method marked and an itemized price: product, branding, packaging, and service.
- Once the artwork is approved, most of these items take 2 to 4 days; some crystal plaques take 5 to 7, depending on the product. A kit with several items and special packaging takes 10 to 18 business days.
- Piece-by-piece quality control before packing and delivery.
In the mockup we check what each method will not forgive: a gradient logo headed for laser, a brand color requested as an engraving, or very thin lettering in an area two or three centimeters wide. We propose the version that works before production. If each piece carries a name, we need the list written exactly as it should appear, with accents and capitals.
The method also affects price; what drives the price of promotional products in the DR covers what else changes it. If you are branding tech, see branded USB drives, chargers, and tech. Request your quote with the product, logo, and quantity: we reply within 24 to 48 hours with the recommended method and a mockup.
Frequently asked questions
Which method lasts longest on a steel tumbler?
Laser engraving: it marks the metal itself, with no ink to wear off. UV printing also holds up to daily use, especially if the tumbler is washed by hand without abrasive sponges.
Can a laser engrave my logo in color?
No. A laser uses no ink: it marks the item in the material's own tone. If you need exact brand colors, the item has to accept UV printing or sublimation, which its product page states.
Do you offer pad printing?
No. Lemon does not do pad printing: pens and plastic items are UV-printed, which gives full color with no per-color setup.
Can each keychain or tumbler carry a different name?
Yes. With laser engraving, UV printing, or sublimation, each piece is marked on its own, so the name changes without redoing the setup. Send the list written exactly as it should appear, with accents and capitals.
