Short answer

DTF prints your logo in full color on a film that is heat-pressed onto cotton, polyester, or blends, on light or dark garments. At Lemon Creativo in Santo Domingo, a DTF T-shirt starts at RD$517 and a polo shirt at RD$712 (before ITBIS tax, as of October 2026). Textiles take 2 to 7 days, depending on the product page.

What is DTF, and how does it look on a uniform?

DTF stands for direct to film: the design is printed in full color on a film, an adhesive powder is added, and it is bonded to the garment with heat and pressure. The result is a thin layer on the fabric, with the logo's exact colors and fine detail.

Three traits set it apart from other methods and explain when it makes sense:

  • It has a white base under the colors, so it looks just as vivid on a black T-shirt as on a white one.
  • No setup per color. An eight-color logo takes the same prep as a one-color logo, and each piece can be different.
  • It works on almost any fabric: cotton, polyester, and blends, plus caps, bags, and other textiles.

If you are still choosing between embroidery, DTF, and sublimation, the comparison of all four methods is in embroidery, DTF, screen printing, or sublimation: how to choose. Here we go deep on DTF.

When does DTF make sense on a uniform?

When the logo is complex, the garment is dark, or each piece needs to be different. These are the cases where we recommend it:

  • Logos with many colors, gradients, or shadows. Embroidery simplifies them; DTF reproduces them as they are.
  • Dark garments. Thanks to the white base, colors do not fade into black or navy.
  • Names, numbers, or departments that change on each piece, with no setup cost per change.
  • Small orders or reorders of a few pieces, since there are no screens or prior programming.
  • Back designs or areas larger than a chest logo.
  • The same logo on different items (polo, cap, bag) in the same color on all of them.

On our product pages, DTF also costs less than embroidery: RD$75 less per piece on polos, T-shirts, and caps, as of October 2026.

When is DTF not the right choice?

When the garment is formal and worn daily, when the design covers a huge area of sports fabric, or when a light fabric can be sublimated. In those cases there is a better option:

  • An office or front-desk polo worn every day: embroidery looks more formal and survives more washes.
  • A very large design on dry fit or birdseye: a DTF layer across half the chest blocks the fabric's airflow. Go for a moderate logo or, on a light shirt, sublimation.
  • A light polyester T-shirt for an outdoor event: sublimation costs the same on our dry fit T-shirt and cannot be felt.
  • When you want texture: DTF is flat. If the logo should be felt, choose embroidery.

How long does DTF last, and how should it be washed?

We cannot promise a number of washes, because it depends on the garment, the washing, and the wear. What we do know is what shortens it: high heat, an iron directly on the design, and bleach. With this care, the design lasts much longer:

  1. Wash the garment inside out in cold or warm water.
  2. No bleach or strong stain removers on the design.
  3. No hot dryer: hang it in the shade or use a low-heat cycle.
  4. Never iron directly on the DTF. If needed, iron inside out or with a cloth on top.
  5. Do not leave it damp and folded with the design pressed against another garment for hours.

The sign that something went wrong is a lifting edge or small cracks where the fabric stretches most. If it shows up in the first few weeks, it is almost always heat: the dryer or the iron.

Which catalog items take DTF, and what do they cost?

Most of our textiles. These are the DTF prices on each product page, reference prices before ITBIS tax as of October 2026, with embroidery alongside for comparison:

On the hoodie and the jacket both methods cost the same, so the design alone decides. The final price changes with quantity, design size, and positions.

How we work with DTF at Lemon

DTF is behind several of our most-requested items: full-color DTF bags have been among our most-ordered products since 2025. What those orders taught us is that the result is decided in the file, before printing.

  1. We check your logo: a vector file (AI, EPS, SVG, or editable PDF) or a large PNG with a transparent background prints sharp. If not, we tell you before quoting.
  2. Within 24 to 48 hours you get a mockup with the design's size and position on the garment, and an itemized price.
  3. Once the artwork is approved, textiles take 2 to 7 days depending on the product page, and bags 2 to 4, also per the product page.
  4. We check every piece to make sure the design is well bonded, centered, and has no lifting edges.

Mistakes we see often: sending the logo inside a white box, which prints exactly like that on a colored T-shirt; using an image pulled from social media, which looks pixelated at size; and requesting a design that covers the whole front of a dry fit T-shirt for an outdoor event. We flag all three in the mockup.

If you are planning a full uniform, start with our guide to custom corporate uniforms. For event T-shirts, read event T-shirts: how many to order and which method. Every garment that takes DTF is in branded textiles and uniforms.

Request your quote with your logo, the garment, and the quantity: we reply within 24 to 48 hours with a DTF mockup and an itemized price.

Frequently asked questions

Can DTF go on a black garment?

Yes. DTF has a white layer under the colors, so the logo stays vivid on black, navy, or any dark color. Sublimation, by contrast, does not work on dark garments.

Does DTF crack or peel over time?

Properly applied and cared for, it should not. What shortens its life most is a hot dryer, an iron directly on the design, and bleach. A lifting edge is a sign of too much heat.

Can DTF print each employee's name?

Yes. Each piece is printed separately, so the name or number changes without redoing anything. We just need the list written exactly as it should appear.

What file do I need for DTF printing?

Ideally a vector logo (AI, EPS, SVG, or editable PDF) or a large PNG with a transparent background. A small image or one with a white background shows on the garment.
